The Acropolis of Athens
Board game
During the reign of the emperor Septimius Severus, the rule of the prefect of Athens has led the city’s fortunes to decline. A new class of aristocrats plunders the monuments for spoils with which to decorate its villas. The prefect himself establishes sentry posts with a view to benefitting from the looting! Disturbances frequently brake out and the famous Library of Hadrian is set on fire. Thousands of manuscripts are stolen, among them the only copy of Description of Attica, in which the traveler Pausanias had recorded all of the monuments on and around the Sacred Rock, the Acropolis. Enraged, the emperor decides to appoint a new prefect. In order to determine the best candidate, he devises the following challenge: he sends the contenders to Athens together with the chief Secretary of Rome, and, following in the footsteps of Pausanias, they must record anew all of the monuments. The route is not easy! There are hidden traps at every step, while each contender will try to undermine his opponents. Only one will become prefect! Will it be you?
