The Parthenon was built in the 5th century BC (447-438 BC) in a period of great prosperity for the city of Athens which followed their victory in the Persian Wars. The temple dominates the Acropolis of Athens and has been, ever since, one of the most significant monuments in the world.<\/p>\n
