Catalogue accompanying the exhibition of the same name, which was organised by the Benaki Museum (November 16, 2010 – January 16, 2011). A study of the life and oeuvre of Angelos Akotantos, the leading painter in Venetian-held Crete, it reveals new information about this major figure and the era in which he painted. The introductory texts refer to the differences in the economic and political fate of Constantinople and those of Chandacas, Candia, and the lasting cultural influence the capital of the Byzantine Empire held over Crete.
