Aegeus left and Aethra gave birth to the little boy who was later to become not only the king of Athens, but its most famous hero. He grew up peacefully in Troizen with his mother and his wise grandfather and when he became 16 years old, Aethra took him to the mountain, exactly as Aegeus had told her to do. Without any difficulty, the strong young man moved the rock and ‘discovered’ his father’s gifts. Wearing the sandals, he took the sword in his hands and set off for Athens…
